Running DM Automation for Group Buy Open and Close Times — 3 Settings People Miss (2026)
Group buys (gonggu, Korean group-purchase sales) are a business of timing. Inquiries pile up at the open, and "is this still available?" keeps arriving after the close. Even with DM automation in place, getting the timing wrong causes two kinds of accidents — the automation is off at the open and you miss the earliest comments, or the closed group buy's link keeps going out and customer service gets worse, not better. This post covers the 3 settings for running a group buy's start and end with UUP.

Setting 1 — Open with scheduled activation, automatically
If your group buy announcement goes up at 9 p.m., the automation has to be alive at 9 p.m. The problem is that at that hour you're busy with something else — UUP's scheduled activation takes this over.
- When you create the automation, schedule the activation time with the calendar and time widget, and it turns on automatically 5 minutes before the set time.
- Setting it 5 minutes ahead of the announcement's posting time isn't a trick, it's the design — every comment from the moment of posting gets caught, with no gap.
- Pair it with Instagram's scheduled posting and you touch nothing at the open: the announcement goes up at 9:00, the automation has been on since 8:55, and the 9:01 "link please" comment gets its DM.
A scheduled automation still counts against your plan's active-automation limit, so if you plan to run several group buys at once, check the per-plan limits first.
Setting 2 — Time the products with scheduled product publishing
Timing only the DMs is half the job. If the group buy's products are visible on your link page before the open, you get "why can I see it but not order it?" inquiries; if you publish them by hand after the open, clicks leak in the meantime.
- Products on a UUP link page support scheduled publishing — the product appears on the page right at the group buy's open time.
- Pre-open inquiries get a "opening soon" notice, post-open ones get the purchase link — the DM copy and the page's visibility now move on the same clock.
- Keep the live group buy pinned to the top of the page. Someone who sees your Reel late still finds it instantly via profile → link page.
Setting 3 — The close is manual, so make it a routine
Here's something to say honestly: there is (as of yet) no feature that turns the automation off by itself at the close time. The opening side can be scheduled; the closing side is a manual toggle. So the close has to become a routine.
The 3-minute routine right after closing:
- Turn the automation off — one toggle on that group buy's automation in your list. A closed group buy's link continuing to go out is the number-one source of group buy customer service.
- Or swap the message for a closing notice — instead of turning it off entirely, change the DM copy to "this group buy has closed — the next one is announced via the link in my profile," and late comments convert into the next opportunity. Off versus swap: decide based on your post-close inquiry volume.
- Tidy the link page — unpin the closed product so it drops down, and move the next group buy up.
Tie this routine to an alarm at the close time and nothing slips. UUP automations toggle per automation, so you stop exactly this group buy's automation without touching the ones on your other posts.
What This Structure Buys You — Data for the Next Group Buy
When the timing is precise, the analytics are precise. Sends, send → click conversion, and per-product clicks between open and close accrue cleanly per group buy — and once you have facts like "70% of this group buy's clicks landed in the first two hours after open," the next group buy's announcement time and reminder timing become data-driven decisions. The full group buy setup picture is in the group buy and seller automation setup guide, and the line between this and engagement bots is in how to tell the two kinds of automation apart.
FAQ
Why is there no auto-off at close? Is it coming?
Today's honest answer is "scheduled activation (automatic) + a closing routine (manual)." Automatic shutdown at the close time is a requested feature and it's under consideration, but this post only describes what works today — UUP would rather not describe things that don't exist as if they did.
Can I change the keyword mid-group-buy?
You can edit the message and link while the automation is active. But changing the keyword itself midway breaks with the word you announced in the video and the post, and comments start slipping through — lock the keyword before the open, and touch only the message during the run.
What if I run several group buys at once?
Attach a separate automation to each announcement (post) — even with the same keyword, different posts each send their own link. If you run many at once, check your plan's active-automation limit on Pricing.
