Mix photos and videos in a Threads or Instagram multiple-photos post

When you auto-upload to Threads or Instagram, you can now put photos and videos together in one "Multiple photos" post. Until now you could only post several photos or a single video, so a post that mixed photos and videos had to be published from each app yourself.

What it does

  • Mix photos and videos: Put photos and videos in any order in a Threads or Instagram "Multiple photos" post. A post with only videos works too.
  • Item limits: Photos and videos together go up as one post — 2 to 20 items on Threads, 2 to 10 on Instagram.
  • Carry on from a video: If you upload a video under "Video" and then switch to "Multiple photos," that video stays as the first item. Just add your photos after it.

How to use it

  1. Go to Dashboard > Auto-upload and press Create a post.
  2. Pick your Threads or Instagram account as where to post (you can pick both), and choose Multiple photos as the post type.
  3. Press Choose photos or videos, or drag files in. Videos show their upload progress.
  4. Set the order with the arrows, write your caption, pick a publish time, and schedule.

Good to know

  • Right now Threads and Instagram let you mix photos and videos. If you also picked a Facebook Page account, the screen tells you before saving — remove the videos or unselect that account.
  • Videos in an Instagram "Multiple photos" post must be 3 to 60 seconds and up to 100MB. Post longer videos under "Video" and they go up as Reels (up to 15 minutes). A 9:16 vertical video may be cropped or rejected, so videos between 4:5 (portrait) and 16:9 (landscape) are safest.
  • Videos in a Threads "Multiple photos" post must be MP4 or MOV, up to 300MB and 5 minutes each. Photos can be up to 8MB each, and go to Instagram as JPG (PNG files are converted to JPG).
  • In an Instagram "Multiple photos" post, the rest are cropped to the aspect ratio of the first photo. You can't set a cover for videos in a "Multiple photos" post — the first frame of the video is used automatically.
  • Each channel needs time to process videos, so a post with videos may go up a few minutes after the scheduled time.
