How to Get a Coupang Partners API Key (2026) — Eligibility, Where the Menu Is, What the Key Can Do, and What Changes After You Register It
Once you're active on Coupang Partners (Korea's largest affiliate program), you'll hear that "registering an API key makes links convert automatically." But when you find the API menu on the Partners site, the issue button won't press, or two unfamiliar values — Access Key and Secret Key — appear with no explanation of where they go. Based on Coupang Partners' official user guide, this post covers when the API key is issued, which menu it lives in, and what the key can do, then what actually changes when you register that key in a tool like UUP, and the two things you must handle alongside registration.
Before you read: Eligibility and API structure are based on the official Coupang Partners user guide (February 2025 edition, checked September 2026). Menu names may change if the Partners site is redesigned. This post is written by the UUP team, which builds the Coupang link auto-conversion feature.

1. The API key only comes after final approval
This is the first condition the guide pins down. The STEP 3 final approval page reads: "Only after final approval is complete can you ① receive settlement for Coupang Partners activity and ② use the Partners API."
So right after signing up, the API menu may exist but the key can't be used. The final approval flow works like this.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Activity after signup | Create links, post them, build up results (results are tallied even before approval) |
| Automatic review | Once cumulative sales reach ₩150,000 (Korean won) or more, final-approval channel review starts automatically |
| Approved | Channel and activity confirmed normal — settlement and API access open |
| Rejected | Member info errors or terms violations trigger a request to fix activity pages — earned commissions so far are kept even if rejected |
The approval process and rejection reasons are covered in How to get Coupang Partners approval. If you're pre-approval, read the rest of this post as "what to do once approved," and for now use short links created on the Partners site directly (how to create links — three routes).
2. Where the menu is and what the key looks like
Log in to the Partners site and open the Partners API menu (the user guide introduces it under "Creating links and banners — Partners API"). Approved accounts can issue a key here, and issuing produces two values.
- Access Key — identifies your account
- Secret Key — signs requests; a secret
They're a pair, and you enter both when registering in a tool. The Secret Key is like a password — don't screenshot, share, or attach it to posts. If leading or trailing spaces come along when copying, registration ends up as "key verification failed," so paste exactly the value.
One thing the guide emphasizes: "Using the Partners API is not required! Partners links, widgets, and banners are enough for Partners activity." The API key is an option for people who want automation, not a condition of participation.
3. What the key can do — three APIs
The guide presents the Partners API in three branches.
| API | What it does |
|---|---|
| Product API | Provides 200M+ Coupang products and Gold Box product lists |
| Deep Link API | Converts Coupang page URLs into Partners URLs (short links) |
| Reporting API | Provides daily click and performance data |
For Instagram creators, the practically useful one is the Deep Link API. Feed it a product page URL and it returns a short link that attributes commissions to you — a program doing the "create link" step you'd otherwise do by hand on the Partners site. The Product API enables product search and listings inside a tool, and the Reporting API downloads the numbers from the report screens (the reports themselves are covered in how to read reports).
Unless you're developing yourself, calling these APIs is the tool's job. All you do is register the key in the tool.
4. What changes when you register it in UUP
In the UUP dashboard, open the Coupang Partners menu, click Register API key, enter the Access Key and Secret Key, then click Save and check status. Keys are stored encrypted and never displayed again. Registration is available on BASIC ($3.99/month) and above.
After saving, UUP verifies the key and shows a status.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Not connected | No key entered yet |
| Checking approval | Key saved but not yet approved, or Coupang's check is delayed — check again after registering activity pages |
| Connected | Auto-conversion is ready |
| Key verification failed | Access Key or Secret Key is wrong — check for copy spaces and issuance status |
| Disconnected | The saved key is no longer used — register a new key to reconnect |
Once Connected, three things change.
- A regular Coupang product URL entered into a product and saved is converted into a short link automatically. The step of opening the Partners site, creating a link, and copying it back disappears.
- A "Convert to affiliate link" button appears in the product editor. Pressing it replaces the URL field itself with the converted short link — the address on screen and the address visitors open must be one and the same, so a second address isn't shown separately.
- Coupang product search works inside the editor (8 searches per user per hour). Coupang caps the query at 50 characters, so pasting a full product name gets shortened at a word boundary with a note saying so.
If conversion fails, the original URL is kept with the failure reason rather than being shown as if it were an affiliate link. The most common failure is an old product page that's no longer on sale — search Coupang again for the currently selling page, or use the product search button in the failure notice.

Two honest limitations. First, UUP's auto-conversion doesn't attach a SubID (channel ID) to links. You can't separate UUP traffic by channel ID in Partners reports; read the source from UUP's per-product clicks and Auto DM funnel stats instead. Second, auto-conversion happens at save time, so URLs on products saved earlier don't change by themselves — press "Convert to affiliate link" in the editor.
5. Two things to handle before registering
UUP's key registration screen shows an "approval readiness checklist" alongside. Entering the key and stopping there comes back later as an approval rejection or a payout hold.
- Register every UUP page URL you run as a Partners activity page. The link page is where Partners links actually sit, so if its URL isn't among your activity pages, "activity page not registered" becomes a rejection reason. Register your Instagram profile too.
- Make the disclosure text visible near the title or the first part, then capture each page's screen. The recommended sentence and placement are in the disclosure text post; putting it in the UUP link page's notice bar pins it at the top, which makes the "first part" condition easy to meet.
FAQ
I'm pre-approval but the API menu is visible. Can I create a key?
Even if the menu shows, API use opens only after final approval (guide STEP 3). Before approval, paste short links created on the Partners site straight into the URL field of a UUP product — links work on the free plan too.
I told someone my key / a screenshot got posted
If the Secret Key is exposed, someone else can call the API under your account. Issue a new key from the API menu on the Partners site, and in UUP use Replace API key to save the new one — saving a new key stops the old one from being used.
Do auto-converted links pay a different commission than links made on the Partners site?
They're short links from the same account, so attribution is the same. The only difference is that auto-converted links carry no SubID, if you were using one.
